"For a hoax of this scale, I would have to come up with the life of non -Zealin from scratch"

Mikhail Maglov is one of the journalists who verified the correspondence from the FBK investigation about the attack on Volkov. Here is his interview

The Corruption Foundation issued an investigation to attack Leonid Volkov, which occurred in Vilnius in the spring of 2024. The customer of the attempt in it was named the former top manager of Yukos Leonid Nevzlin: according to the associates of Alexei Navalny, he is also involved in organizing attacks by the director of the FBC Ivan Zhdanov and the wife of the economist Maxim Mironov Alexander Petrachkov. The investigation was built on the basis of a correspondence, which is supposed to be conducted with direct performers,-it was provided by the “solper” Andrei Matus, who, in his own words, worked for Mikhail Khodorkovsky (friend and business partner of Nevzlin) for the last three years. The correspondence of Nevzlin, at the request of the Corruption Fund, was checked by two journalists - this is Christ Grozev (among other things, he collaborated with the FBC in the investigation of Navalny's poisoning) and Mikhail Maglov. Medusa talked with Maglov about how this check was arranged - and what else was found in the correspondence.

- When did FBK contact you?

- Last week, immediately after the publication of RT [about the fact that Leonid Nevzlin stands behind the attack on Leonid Volkov], the FBK contacted the editorial office of [“Project” and “Agency”] - and requested assistance in the verification of history. The editors delegated me. I came to the guys, and they told me: “We have a story. She concerns us. Everything sounds very crazy. We want you to study the files we are based on. ”

- What did the leak that you studied consist of?

- Of the two “screens”, that is, two videos in which two different correspondence in Signal flipped. One is the user's chat “Leonid Nevzlin” with [lawyer Anatoly] Blinov ( he, according to the FBK investigation, instructed Nevzlin to organize an attack on Volkov - approx. “Medusa” ). The second - Blinova chat already with another subscriber under the nickname “Arye bar am”, which translates from Hebrew as “lion, son of the people” - this, as I think , is also non -Zellin. Both “screens” are made from the phone [or phones] Blinov.

He [pancakes] organized the attack, but Nevzlin remained dissatisfied with the result. The performers, meanwhile, continued to demand the money promised by him. Then Nevzlin and his assistant Roman Zhelyazko attracted Andrei Matus’s “Solver” so that he would take these phones from Blinov - and made sure that these were original devices (that is, key evidence for non -Zaplin), not copies.

The phones were already in Matus in his hands, but something happened, Nevzlin began to threaten Matus, and then Matus decided not to transfer them, disappeared and began to contact all this with different people. When Matus only wrote off with Volkov, he handed the FBK a number of files. Including screenshots of correspondence and video, in which Matus with a finger leaf through the chat Blinov chat with non -Signal. I studied this video too.

There was also an audio recording of the meeting of the FBK with Matus, which took place in Montenegro. Matus turned on Volkov and Zhdanov his conversation with Nevzlin - and they recorded it. Starting to study the resulting sound file, I realized that I can’t evaluate it, because this is an audio audio recording.

-You tried to check the integrity of the correspondence-to prove that any changes were not made to it? For example, specially introduced messages into it.

- I meant that this is possible. But I did not find signs of “poisoning” [data]. Correspondence covers several months of communication. Is it possible to technically fake it and throw any messages? I am not a technical specialist, but I suspect what is possible. The problem of this version is that dozens, hundreds of different things and projects discussed Blinov with Nevzlin. And interspersed.

In the correspondence there are documents, people, stories, discussions of custom articles. They discuss how they achieved the initiation of a criminal case on which they really interrogated [the executive director of the FBK Vladimir] Ashurkov. There are screenshots of the correspondence of non -zero with the [Maria] singers after the scandal .) With the “Elves factory” (Nevzlin sent them Blinov with his comments).

Intra -brigade showdown is discussed: for example, as non -Zellin wants to deprive [Vladimir] of the Hussin Spanish citizenship. In the chat, they discuss possible schemes and Panceen-and Blinov in August 2023 is already flying to Spain to meet with the former assistant to the lawyer Gusinsky (the lawyer himself had already died by then). A photograph of this man at the venerable age of pancakes sends Nevzlin with a postscript: "In my opinion, we will agree." They were so looking for documents on the receipt of Gusinsky citizenship of Spain, in order to then achieve its cancellation, including using the bribery of the famous Spanish journalist.

Even in the correspondence there are many stories about Mochilovo [billionaire Peter] Aven. And from this chat they come into reality. For example, Nevzlin writes Blinov that he wants to deprive Aven of Latvian citizenship. They also discuss the Lithuanian company IDS Borjomi Europe, which, I quote by correspondence, “belongs to the beautiful Trinity [shareholders of Alfa Groups]-Aven, [Mikhail] Friedman, [German] khan.” Discuss a ordered article about violation of this company of sanctions regime. I searched - and found [ordered by them] publications: several posts have a certain Dmitry Savvin, who in correspondence is called the “Head of the Board of the Association of the Development of Russian Civil Society and the Support of Russian Emigrants”. These posts reached the same dates when Nevzlin discussed all this operation.

It is also clear from the correspondence that people who work on non -Zeads live in Spain or which he helps. And that their visa issues is solved by Anatoly Blinov and his assistant named Misha, who draw up to everyone a “student” residence permit (this is when you study Spanish and get a residence permit). There, for example, they legalized in the country [PR manager who worked in the apparatus of the head of Bashkortostan, and Nevzlin Media editor of Rostislav] Murzagulov and his wife. Another person needed Latvian driver’s rights - and there is a discussion of all this in the chat.

Still pancakes with Nevzlin are looking for banks where to store money. Nevzlin has some problems with this: they do not open accounts, refusing the KYC stage. The chat describes how they found the Latvian bank and even held negotiations with its leadership. And Nevzlin complains that everything is being decided for a long time. There are photos of questionnaires that are filled out to open the account - and they give all the data of non -Zapolin, up to the registration in Israel.

[Still], since the non -Zelezlin is wanted by Russia, before a trip to Spain, he begins to look for a lawyer who could help him in place in case of any problems. The lawyer, who is found Nevzlin, tells Blinov that he worked with Harry Kasparov and Mikhail Khodorkovsky and that on October 16 [2023] they had dinner with Khodorkovsky. I check this-and I see that the 15th Khodorkovsky was in Spain and met with local activists.

- That is, you conducted more semantic analysis than the technical?

- Yes, but I'm sure that the correspondence looks whole and that the interlocutor in it is non -Zellin. This is a huge array, and consider this correspondence “poisoned” ... too much is checked there - it is impossible to come up with this. For a hoax of this scale, it would be necessary to come up with the life of Leonid Nevzlin from scratch.

In addition, there are too many problematic ones with which correspondence could “poison”. Volkov’s abduction, an attack on [economist Maxim] Mironov with [his wife Alexandra] Petrachkova, and the purchase of illegal weapons, and the bribe of Latvian prosecutors are discussed. Almost all of this correspondence consists of bad stories.

- How can I make sure the integrity of the correspondence, without access to the phone with the messenger installed on it? Even having such access, it is not easy to do this because of the characteristics of the encryption used by Signal .

- There was no way for technical verification. Therefore, we checked what could be checked.

-Did you try to contact Matus, who at some point cut off communication with the FBK?

- I was not engaged in checking Matus’s words and was not even going to talk to him: I do not see the need for this. I did not have the opportunity to verify the circumstances associated with Matus in the designated deadlines. Can the FBK presentation of his role be incomplete? Maybe. Is it possible to install this in such a short time? No.

The FBK investigation directly says that the source, that is, matus, muddy. But when the involvement of the investigation begins to insist on the “turbidity” of the drain source, then the questions arise: Matus says that he worked for non -zero and mined information for the [founded by Khodorkovsky] Dossier Center. So this “solved” with ties in the FSB worked for them or not? And if he worked, then, then he was not muddy for them? Why then is it already muddy now?

When the question is posed in the spirit of “here, the information brought the muddy type”, the essence is ignored. Because sometimes muddy types can really know something. Especially if they worked for you.

-How did you find a telegram channel, where did you upload video attacks on Alexander Petrachkov, shot by the attackers themselves?

- This channel is mentioned right in the correspondence. Immediately after the attack, Nevzlin and Panceen are discussing that the video of the attack should be published so that others are disgraced. Blinov suggests: "Let me buy an anonymous SIM card and make a telegram channel from it?" Then they decide what to call it. Nevzlin gives instructions on how to cut this video. They think how they will spin it.

On September of September, 2023-on the day of registration of the canal-Blinov writes Nevzlin, I quote: “Simoki bought, tonight there will be a telegram channel. Avatar - “pig”. The name is “not all the cattle of Shrovetide”.

- Were there any nozzle selfie that did not appear in other sources in the correspondence? Or other unique photos?

- No, they do not have the manner of communication. Even Blinov himself photography in correspondence was found only one - how he sits on an airplane and holds a passport and a ticket in his hands. And if I understood the context correctly, then for trips to Europe, I used a fake Latvian passport. For money - they called this criminal service “rental of a passport”.

- You also argue the authenticity of the correspondence by the fact that Nevzlin writes there in a recognizable style: he puts a dash without a gap after a word; As emoticons, he uses a colon, two brackets are compassionate with the previous word. But in the samples of the correspondence of non -zero with other people who are at the disposal of "Medusa", and dash and smiley are also different.

-Regardless of the FBK, I asked my friends to provide me with my correspondence with Nevzlin-and installed not only his punctuation habits, but also typical parasitic words for him. Do I think this in itself proof? No, I don't think. In itself, nothing is proof, but all leads to the fact that this is a real correspondence of non -zero.

- In one of the messages, Nevzlin gives the interlocutor a link to a specialized site where tens of thousands of profiles of politicians and officials are systematized. As your check showed, the user from the IP address in Jerusalem entered the same page an hour before sending the message. In this city, Nevzlin has a two -level apartment in which he met with Volkov in 2019, the film says.

“I can’t reveal to you how I got information about the IP address, but I managed to set the visit not just on the site, but on its specific page.” And on this site there are a lot of pages. Nevzlin with Pancakes at that moment discussed the Generals of the FSB, found out whether the “Sechinsky special forces” were found in Khokhlovsky Lane, and Nevzlin threw the link to the specific page in this context. To coincide, too incredible.

- Are there any questions that you could not answer during the audit?

- The correspondence is mentioned by names - too common - several people about whom I could not understand who it is. And I would like.

- What do you think about the very situation described in the plum?

- What is it fucked up. In which we all ended up.

- And what do you think about the position of non -Zelevin, who claims that the FBK supposedly cooperates with the FSB - and all this is “drained in Moscow”?

- I think that most of those who write about the “hand of Moscow” did not look and did not read the investigation itself.
