State agencies on Tuesday morning reported the murder by FSB officers of a Russian man who, according to them, was an agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, Russian special services have thus reported the murder of at least 10 citizens of the country who were suspected of preparing terrorist attacks in the interests of the Ukrainian special services.
Details. As TASS reported, a man born in 1984 was planning to blow up one of the managers of a defense enterprise in the Sverdlovsk region. When detained at the hiding place, he offered armed resistance and was killed, the FSB claims. They found a pistol, a powerful homemade explosive device and means of communication with the “curators” on him. Instructions and components for explosives were found at home and in the garage, TASS writes.
- The department also showed footage showing the body of the murdered man in the grass, in his hand he had a Makarov pistol removed from the safety catch. The security forces also showed a video of a search of the garage: they took out gas cylinders, cans and wires. The deceased was called a Russian citizen, an agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and a member of a “Ukrainian nationalist terrorist organization banned in Russia.”
- According to the Agency’s analysis (we analyzed the archives of the state agencies TASS and RIA Novosti), this is the 16th person who was killed in Russia and in the occupied Ukrainian territories as part of cases of cooperation with the Ukrainian special services since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Five of those killed did not have their citizenship indicated in the reports, one was Belarusian, the rest were named by state agencies as Russians.
- According to the FSB, “agents of Ukraine” were killed exclusively during armed resistance and almost always at weapons caches. Most often this happened in the Zaporozhye region occupied by the Russian Armed Forces - three murders. According to the intelligence service, one of the suspects was preparing a terrorist attack , another was preparing the murder of a local politician , the third was collecting intelligence for the State Intelligence Directorate and “exerting psychological pressure on residents of the region.” Another murder in the occupied territories occurred in Lisichansk, Luhansk region, where an “agent of the Security Service of Ukraine” was planning an attack on the Government House.
- In Russia, security forces carried out such operations in the Leningrad , Tver , Voronezh , Volgograd regions, as well as in Karelia , Tyumen and Kabardino-Balkaria . According to them, the suspects intended to commit sabotage and assassination attempts, undermine military and energy facilities, and transmitted information about the Russian Armed Forces to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- Most often, FSB reports refer to the murder of one person. However, there were three cases when security forces killed several people at once in one operation. In Kabardino-Balkaria and in the Volgograd region, two people were killed at once, in the Voronezh region - three. All were accused of preparing terrorist attacks or sabotage.
- The FSB killed the only citizen of Belarus in May 2024 in Karelia, accusing him of preparing a terrorist attack in an administrative building. According to the FSB, the murdered man collaborated with the Kastus Kalinovsky regiment, formed from Belarusians, fighting in Ukraine.
