"We are working on a solution." Google - about difficulties with registering accounts in Russia

Google said it is aware of problems with account registration that some users have encountered in Russia and is trying to fix them.

“We know that some users in Russia have problems using Google accounts, and we are working to resolve these problems,” Google’s press service told the Agency.

The company emphasized that it is still trying to keep Google's free services available to users from Russia.

A similar statement was also published by the telegram channel “Podem”, the newspaper “Izvestia” and a number of other publications with reference to the Google press service.

• On September 9, Russian media reported that some users were unable to verify their new Google account using a phone number from Russian operators. They received a message: “This number cannot be used for verification.” At the same time, Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin, in a commentary to RBC, expressed doubts that Google had in any way placed restrictions on Russian numbers, saying that this was a purely technical problem - “the SMS gateway from which you can do this has dropped,” Telegram - KB Economics channel noted that the problem with confirming new accounts “has existed for years” and may be due to the fact that the number used for this could previously belong to another user who had already indicated it when registering with Google. There were no comments from Google at the time.
• On September 26, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation announced that Google has limited the creation of new accounts using Russian mobile numbers. The Ministry of Digital Development did not specify the source of such information, but called on Russian Google users to create backup copies of their data, switch to alternative methods of two-factor authentication, or use domestic platforms.
