The new leader of Hezbollah is the cousin of the deceased Hassan Nasrallah

The Lebanese group Hezbollah has chosen a new leader - the cousin of the murdered Hassan Nasrallah, Hashem Safi al-Din, Al Arabiya reports , citing sources.

Before his appointment, 60-year-old Safi al-Din served as head of Hezbollah’s executive committee, media write. He was one of the founders of the group and, in particular, dealt with financial issues in it.

Safi al-Din is also the son-in-law of Iranian Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US missile strike on Baghdad airport in January.

• The IDF announced the killing of Hassan Nasrallah as a result of an Israeli Air Force strike on a residential sector, under which the group’s leadership bunker was allegedly located, on Friday, September 28. A day later, Hezbollah officially confirmed the death of its leader.

• Russian authorities "strongly condemned" Israel's actions. The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the IDF of committing “another political murder,” which would entail “inevitable further escalation.”
