In St. Petersburg, a participant in the war in Ukraine was sentenced to 3 years in prison for theft and assault; the term would have been even shorter if not for a previous conviction

The garrison court sent Pavel Gusarov to a general regime colony, banned him from driving for a year and seven months and collected 100 thousand rubles from him for attacking the driver and stealing a car, the press service of the St. Petersburg courts reported.

On March 23, 2024, Gusarov was riding in the passenger seat of a Renault Dokker car in the village of Ulyanovka in the Leningrad region. The military man was drunk, but he himself wanted to drive. When the driver refused to hand over control of the car, Gusarov attacked him and began to choke him. After that, the military man got behind the wheel and began driving around the neighborhood, but soon crashed into a fence.

For stealing a car, the military court sentenced Gusarov to 2.5 years in prison, but taking into account his previous outstanding conviction, this term was increased to three years. In April 2023, Gusarov received a suspended sentence on several charges, including theft, damage to other people's property and drunk driving.

In addition to the term, the court banned the military man from driving for one year and seven months and collected 100 thousand rubles from him as compensation for moral damage.

“Gusarov was brought up in a large family, realized his guilt and sincerely repented of his deeds, took part in the Military Military District, where he was wounded, is a combat veteran, and provides financial assistance to the family,” the court noted in a statement.
