During an operation in 78 regions, security forces detained 39 “pro-Ukrainian radicals” who incited minors to carry out armed attacks, TASS reports with reference to the FSB Public Relations Center.
The detainees were aged from 14 to 35 years old, according to the FSB, they were supporters of “Ukrainian terrorist organizations” and corresponded with their “curators” via Discord . The report also claims that they encouraged children and teenagers to commit violence against government officials, classmates and teachers. The investigation established the involvement of nine minors “in the preparation of armed attacks in educational and religious institutions, as well as in places of mass gathering of citizens.”
Earlier, Roskomnadzor sent five new decisions to Discord that could become grounds for blocking the resource. The platform was fined 3.5 million rubles under a protocol for failure to fulfill the duties of the owner of the social network. Last week, Kommersant, citing a source, wrote that the messenger could be blocked in Russia “in the coming days.”
RIA Novosti published a video in which it is said that one of the detainees was preparing to attack classmates; he wrote down his plan, along with a diagram of the classroom, in a school notebook.
In total, as part of the operation, employees of the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee checked 252 participants in “destructive Internet communities.” It does not say which communities we are talking about. During the searches, weapons, ammunition, components for making improvised explosive and incendiary devices, as well as symbols and “propaganda materials of terrorist organizations” were confiscated from the detainees.
