During the war in Ukraine, a contract soldier from the Irkutsk region died 19 days after signing the contract

In total, 1,675 natives of the region have died since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

On September 16, 2024, 53-year-old Semyon Borkhonov from the Irkutsk region died in the Ukrainian Avdeevka, writes “People of Baikal”. He voluntarily entered into a contract and left for war on August 28, 2024. This is the shortest time that a volunteer from the Irkutsk region or Buryatia has been at the front.

Borkhonov first worked as a welder at a metallurgical plant in the village of Meget, then as a security guard. I went on shifts to Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk and worked part-time at construction sites. To earn money, Borkhonov signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense.

Regional payment in the Irkutsk region is 400 thousand rubles. Over 2.5 years, according to “Important Stories”*, 8,408 residents of the Irkutsk region left under a contract for the war.

“People of Baikal” have calculated from open sources that 1,675 residents of the Irkutsk region and 1,974 residents of Buryatia have died in Ukraine at the moment.
