Iran fired 181 ballistic missiles at Israel, Iran's mission to the UN called it a "legitimate response to terrorist attacks"

The IRGC also said that Tehran will launch a new attack if Israel decides to respond, and if America “does something stupid”, then they will attack US bases

On the evening of October 1, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired several hundred ballistic and cruise missiles at Israel, initially reporting 200-400 missiles aimed at Israel. Senior Iranian officials told Reuters that the order to fire the missiles at Israel was given by Supreme Leader Khamenei.

In Israel, air raid signals sounded throughout the country, and the rear command recommended that everyone not leave their shelters until special instructions.

Iranian authorities announced that more than 400 rockets were launched at Israel "in response to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC commander in Lebanon Abbas Nilfroushan."

The IRGC-run Fars news agency reported that at least 80% of Iranian missiles launched hit their targets in the “first wave of strikes against Israel.” Among the targets allegedly hit by Iranian missiles were a military base and gas platforms in the Mediterranean Sea near Ashkelon. According to the IRIB TV channel, some of the Iranian missiles hit the Netzarim area in the Gaza Strip, “hitting a large number” of Israeli tanks. The Iranian Shafaqna agency announced the destruction of more than 20 Israeli F-35 fighter jets.

The Israel Defense Forces stated that 181 ballistic missiles reached Israel, there were several hits in the center and south of the country, the damage is being assessed, and there is currently no information about the casualties of the Iranian shelling. According to the National Medical Service of Israel, two people in Tel Aviv were injured as a result of rocket attack and received shrapnel wounds. The IDF also clarified that there was no damage to the air force's combat capability, aircraft or defense systems. The Air Force will continue its heavy attacks in the Middle East tonight.

Iran's attack on Israel is a "lawful, rational and legitimate response to terrorist attacks," Iran's mission to the United Nations in New York said in a statement posted on X on Tuesday. “If the Zionist regime dares to respond or commit further atrocities, a crushing response will follow. Regional states and Zionist supporters are advised to break up with this regime,” the mission said in a statement.

US President Joe Biden has ordered the US military to help Israel defend against Iranian attacks and shoot down missiles aimed at Israel, the Times of Israel reported, citing the White House.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said Israel would respond to Iranian missile attacks on the country. “We are on high alert defensively and offensively, we will protect the citizens of Israel. This [missile] attack will have consequences. We have plans and we will act at the time and place of our choosing,” he said.

After the attack, the IRGC said Israel would suffer a devastating attack if it responded to Iran's attack. Threats were also made against the United States; Iran promised to strike American bases in the region if America “does something stupid.”

Iran has since closed its airspace, redirected all civilian flights, and is closing Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran in anticipation of an Israeli retaliatory strike.

Shortly before Iran launched a missile attack on Israel, two unknown assailants opened fire on passers-by at a tram stop in Tel Aviv's Jaffa district. Terrorists broke into the tram, started shooting people, after which they got off at the bus stop and shot people there. Eight people were killed and seven more were injured, the Times of Israel writes, citing Israel's national disaster medicine service. The terrorists were eliminated by armed citizens.
