The CIA first conducted an internal investigation aimed at understanding the scale of the problem of sexualized harassment. It is reported by CNN.
CNN notes that, according to the results of a survey conducted in the CIA, 28% of the respondents said that they were faced with at least one case of “sexually hostile work situation” during work in the CIA, and 9% indicated that at least one such case occurred over the past 12 months. At the same time, 7% of respondents said that they were faced with at least one case of undesirable sexual contact or violence during their work in the agency, and 1% said that this experience took place over the past year.

According to the TV channel, the results of the investigation indicate that in the CIA the level of sexualized violence at the workplace can be slightly higher than the national average, and significantly lower than in the US Army.
However, the survey results may not be quite reliable. So, the passage of the survey was voluntary, and only a quarter of the CIA employees agreed to answer questions. “In general, voluntary participants in the survey, as a rule, have strong feelings about the subject under consideration, which potentially distort the results above reality,” writes CNN.

Also, some CIA employees could not believe that their anonymity would be observed, and refuse to participate in the survey, the channel notes.
According to CNN, over the past year, the courts in Virginia and Washington are considering cases of alleged sexualized harassment in the CIA. Two of them have already been sentenced to articles on minor offenses, and one of the former employees of the agency sentenced to 30 years in prison for drug use and sexualized violence against dozens of women.
CNN claims that new reports of harassment by the CIA employees continue to arrive. At the same time, many agency employees face the inability to report what happened to law enforcement agencies, since they are forbidden to disclose their belonging to the CIA.
Among the measures that began to take the CIA to combat sexualized violence are the creation of a special department for receiving statements about harassment, as well as hiring law enforcement officials to assist investigations.
