Volunteer "Nemtsov Most" sentenced to 12 years in prison

The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced to 12 years in prison Yevgeny Mishchenko, a volunteer of the memorial at the site of the murder of Boris Nemtsov. He is charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist organization and accused of cooperation with the Legion of Freedom of Russia, writes Mediazon. The prosecutor asked for 16 years of imprisonment.

Mishchenko will spend the first three years in prison, the rest is in a maximum security colony.

Before the verdict, the court interrogated three defense witnesses. Maria Ryabikova, a friend of Mishchenko, characterized him as "a person impatient for any violence." The Witness Olga Mazurova told how, together with Mishchenko, she helped sick children who did not provide assistance. Mazurova called Evgenia an altruist and pacifist, and said that she did not believe that Mishchenko was capable of something bad. “If someone like Mishchenko will break three ribs, a person admits anything,” the witness concluded.

At the same meeting, Mishchenko was added by the fact that was absent in the case file: according to him, the correspondence with the Legion of Freedom of Russia was intermittent and actively resumed in the summer of 2023 precisely under the influence of the operative Alexei Karasev. Karasev suggested that Mishchenko establish VPN and was constantly interested in the progress of correspondence with the “legion” and answers.

The prosecutor Svetlana Tarasova said that the fault of Mishchenko was allegedly proven, indicating his positive characteristics and the presence of Evgeny spouse, which draws up disability on the softening circumstances.

The volunteer of the Nemtsov Most memorial Evgeny Mishchenko was detained in September 2023 on charges of "justification of terrorism on the Internet." The investigation announced that Mishchenko collaborated with the Legion of Freedom of Russia. During the detention of the volunteer, three ribs were broken.
