In Vologda they want to erect monuments to Stalin and Grozny, the governor claims that the decision was made due to “public appeals”

They plan to erect a monument to Joseph Stalin in Vologda, Governor of the Vologda Region Georgy Filimonov announced this in his telegram channel. “This decision was caused by appeals to us from the public. There is a request,” Filimonov said.

The monument will be installed on the territory of the Vologda Exile house-museum, in which Stalin lived for several months in 1911–1912.

“With all the understanding of the ambiguous interpretation of the role of the individual, we must recognize the great achievements, know the history of our country, honor and be proud of it, because our history is a single and indivisible chain of interconnected, chained links of the historical process, each of which formed the strength the spirit and will of our great people,” the governor spoke about Stalin.

The authorities decided not to stop there and to deepen the “formation of the spirit of the people.” A monument to Ivan the Terrible, who spent 3.5 years in the city, will also soon be erected in Vologda. “The installation of a monument to Ivan Vasilyevich is more than logical in Vologda,” the governor is confident, noting that the monument to Grozny will be an enlarged copy of the bronze sculpture that is in his office.

In August, Georgy Filimonov, who at that time was the acting governor, published a video from his reception room, on the walls of which hang portraits of Joseph Stalin, Felix Dzerzhinsky, Lavrenty Beria, Vladimir Lenin and Vladimir Putin. One of the paintings in his reception room depicts Filimonov himself, Joseph Stalin shaking his hand. The governor himself considers such creativity “conceptual.”

Georgy Filimonov previously worked in the government of the Moscow region. In the “elections” of the governor in September 2024, Filimonov, nominated by United Russia, received 62.3% of the votes.
