London's National Gallery has banned liquids from entering the building following several protests by environmental activists Just Stop Oil. The exceptions are infant formula, expressed milk and prescription medications.

In total, since July 2022, environmental activists have held five actions at the National Gallery. Two of them took place in the last two weeks, which, according to a museum representative, led to a ban on bringing in liquids. The paintings used in the promotions were “The Hay Wagon” by John Constable, “The Toilet of Venus” by Diego Velazquez and “Sunflowers” ​​by Vincent Van Gogh.

According to the BBC, protesters smashed the glass that protected the Velázquez painting and caused more than seven thousand euros in damage to it.

On September 28, 2024, two Just Stop Oil environmental activists, Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland, were sentenced to real prison terms for pouring soup on Vincent van Gogh's painting "Sunflowers" in the National Gallery to draw attention to the problem of global warming.

Greenpeace UK chief executive Will McCallum called the sentence against Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland "draconian" . He also noted that the punishment is disproportionate for such an action, and in reality the painting itself was not damaged.
