Next week, an event will be held on the border with the Gaza Strip by the Nahal movement, which is known for creating settlements and illegal outposts in the occupied West Bank. Members of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party are expected to take part in it, as well as far-right Israeli politicians Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel We Look, who advocate the expansion of Israeli settlements.
Several other Likud associates of Netanyahu also confirmed their participation to Haaretz.
In its statement, Nahal noted that " this event is not just a theoretical conference, but a practical exercise and preparation for the repopulation of Gaza ."
“ Returning to the settlement of Gaza is no longer just an idea, but a process that is already at an advanced stage with the support of the government and the public ,” the movement noted.
The event also included an excursion to Kibbutz Nirim, but the kibbutz representatives themselves denied this and stated that this had not been agreed upon with them.
“ We are still waiting for the government and coalition members to take responsibility for the catastrophic failures of October 7 and for the deep wound that has still not healed in our hearts. Instead of carrying out political activities aimed at creating settlements, the government should focus on returning home the 101 hostages and supporting the reconstruction of Gaza's border communities ,” said kibbutz residents.
Since the Hamas attack and Israel's invasion of the Gaza Strip, Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that Israel's plans do not include the creation of settlements in the Gaza Strip.
