Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived at the summit, which is taking place from October 22 to 24. In total, representatives from more than 30 countries are expected to take part in it.
This was stated by the official representative of the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq. According to him, Guterres' plan is to achieve an end to the war on three grounds: international law, the UN charter and UN resolutions. He also said that Guterres’ position is “well known” - in April, representatives of the UN Secretary General said that he wants the conflict in Ukraine to end “in compliance with the principle of territorial integrity.”
“The UN Secretary-General rejected Ukraine’s invitation to the first Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. However, he accepted an invitation to Kazan from the war criminal Putin,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry emphasized that Guterres's arrival at the summit not only does not contribute to the establishment of peace, but also harms the reputation of the UN.
To do this, it is planned to discuss the creation of a global financial and payment system called BRICS Bridge. It will be called upon to “deal a blow to US dominance in global finance” and “protect Russia and its friends from sanctions,” writes The Economist. According to the publication, this system will allow countries to conduct cross-border settlements using digital platforms managed by their central banks. Russia plans to build it within a year.
In turn, CNN notes that the list of summit participants should demonstrate that despite the ongoing war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed by Western countries because of it, Russia is far from international isolation.
Let us recall that earlier “Vestka” talked about Vladimir Zelensky’s “ victory plan ”: it involves Ukraine joining NATO and contains a secret application to contain Russia. We also wrote that Ukraine wants to hold a second peace summit before the presidential elections in the United States.
