Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump, if he wins the election, may propose a plan to end the war in Ukraine, which involves a “rethinking” of the Minsk agreements , the Financial Times writes in an article on the politician’s foreign policy plans.

According to an unnamed “longtime” Trump adviser, the plan will include enforcement mechanisms and consequences for violating the agreement. At the same time, “European troops” will have to monitor compliance with the agreements, and not NATO forces or UN peacekeepers. “We [the US] will not pay for this. Europe is paying for this,” added the Financial Times interlocutor.

Another adviser to the presidential candidate, Fred Fleitz, believes that the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO should be postponed for several years in order to force Russia to enter into negotiations. “We freeze the conflict, Ukraine doesn’t cede any territory, they don’t give up their territorial claims, and we negotiate with the understanding that there probably won’t be a final agreement until Putin leaves the scene,” he suggests.

Another Trump ally, Congressman Michael Waltz, believes that he could threaten to collapse the Russian economy to force Putin to negotiate. In particular, according to the congressman, Trump could reduce oil and gas prices by flooding the markets with cheaper American energy resources.

As the Financial Times notes, J.D. Vance, whom Trump chose as his vice presidential candidate, also proposed “freezing” the war and creating a “demilitarized zone” along the current line of contact.
