The Office of the Investigative Committee for Tatarstan opened a criminal case against minors due to the extinguishing of the Eternal Flame in Kazan. The main department of the Investigative Committee reported this, and Mediazona drew attention to the publication.
According to journalists, the teenagers were detained by security forces. They are charged with an article on the rehabilitation of Nazism (354.1 of the Criminal Code). The reason for initiating the case was a video in which three young people extinguished the Eternal Flame with snow at the memorial complex in memory of the soldiers who died in the fight against fascism.
Earlier, a video with minors was published by the telegram channel “Kazan at Maximum Speed”. In the video, teenagers warm their hands and indulge in the Eternal Flame. At the end of the video, one of them throws snow onto the flame, after which it goes out.
- According to the SOVA Research Center, many cases under Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code are initiated unlawfully and should be classified under other articles of the Criminal Code or resolved within the framework of civil rather than criminal proceedings.
