
The second Western District Military Court was left by the deputy head of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin in the pre-trial detention center. He will stay under arrest until January 22. This is written by RBC and "Kommersant" .
The publications clarify that Shamarin made a deal with the investigation, pleading guilty in the case of receiving a bribe of more than 36 million rubles from the leadership of the Perm telephone plant TETTA. He received the money for increasing the volume of supplied products according to state contracts for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense and general protection.
After the resignation of Sergei Shoigu, a large number of corruption affairs were instituted from the post of Minister of Defense against the officials of the Ministry of Defense. Since April 2024, several senior military were detained in Russia. In the case of a bribe, Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov, head of the Main Directorate of the personnel of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov were arrested.
The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that criminal cases against senior generals were not the result of “campaign”, but a “consistent” struggle with corruption. At the same time, before Ivanov’s arrest, at the end of April, such criminal cases were not reported.
