
Yakutsk authorities allowed a rally against the cancellation of direct elections of the mayor, planned for November 24, said Anatoly Nogovitsyn, head of the Yabloko regional branch.
In November 2024, the bill of mandatory direct elections of mayors was introduced by the deputy of the State Assembly of the Republic of Sakha, a member of United Russia Viktor Fedorov. According to the document, the way of choosing mayors will be determined by local deputies "in any legal way". Now, the regional law provides for only direct elections of the mayors.
In mid -October, the City Duma of Yakutsk initiated the cancellation of direct elections of the mayor, instead of proposing to choose the chapter from among the candidates proposed by the governor. The New People party opposed the abolition of direct elections.
