Omsk scientists, together with colleagues from the Neftekhim experimental plant, have developed glow-in-the-dark paving stones. According to them, paving stones are highly durable and resistant to frost. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the press service of the university.
It is reported that high-strength paving stones are intended for sidewalks, pedestrian roads, squares and gardening areas.
“We have created a composite material that can withstand high loads caused by pedestrian traffic on its surface, and in all climatic zones. Paving stones made from this material can glow brightly at night and noticeably during the day. The color can be anything, depending on the landscape and the design of the environment,” said Alexander Golunov, head of the laboratory at Omsk State Technical University.

He noted that the energy consumption of one unit will be comparable to a regular light bulb. “Light blocks can be connected to a control system, and then, thanks to a pre-developed program, it will be possible to control the lighting in a personal yard, in a square or park,” the scientist said.
He explained that the paving stones will be made from readily available raw materials, making them inexpensive. Laying tiles will be similar to laying regular paving, but each element will require electrical power. The paving stones can also be connected to solar panels. RIA Novosti notes that the developers have already produced a pilot batch of products.
Meanwhile, with the arrival of cold weather, residents of the regions complain about slippery and snow-filled sidewalks. Residents of Nazarov reported that the sidewalks in the city are not cleaned. In Krasnoyarsk they complained about sidewalks littered with snow, and residents of Nizhnevartovsk complained about ice , which made it dangerous for people to walk on the sidewalks. A resident of the Chelyabinsk region reported in March that due to icy conditions she fell and broke her arm.
