A court in the Novgorod region fined activist Andrei Staroverov 80 thousand rubles in the case of using violence against a police officer (Article 318 of the Criminal Code) and obstructing the investigation (Article 294 of the Criminal Code). “7×7” writes about this with reference to the activist’s words.
In April 2024, a case was opened against the man after the April search in the first libel case (Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code), during which Staroverov refused to give the lawyer’s phone number to the policeman. When the security officer tried to take it away, he removed his hand with the smartphone behind his back. The policeman subsequently stated that the activist hit him. In addition, Staroverov refused to sign the procedural documents: he tore up the search report and threw pieces of it in the investigator’s face.
A case of slander against a man was opened because of a post about the first deputy head of the Pes village administration, Inna Fedorova, where he wrote that the official “someday will have to answer for both illegal occupation of office and participation in genocide.” The activist believes that “all officials occupy their positions illegally, because the source of power according to the Constitution is the people.”
- Andrei Staroverov is an ex-deputy of the Petrograd Soviet who moved to the village of Pes in the Khvoininsky District 15 years ago to work on preserving Russian folk culture. There he founded the folklore and ethnographic ensemble “Svoyanya”, from which officials tried to take the building. After the conflict, the man was fired; he tried to appeal this decision to the Supreme Court.
- After this, Staroverov spoke out against pension and municipal reforms, as well as amendments to the Constitution, and tried to sue local officials together with comrade Alexander Bolshakov (a witness in a libel case). Staroverov considers his criminal case fabricated. “I don’t see any prospects for these comrades in relation to this criminal case. But due to the fact that they are all immoral and crazy, you can expect anything,” he told reporters.
