Equaldex platform banned in Russia for LGBT propaganda

The prosecutor's office considered answers to questions from subscribers to be "LGBT propaganda"

The Khamovnichesky District Court of Moscow banned in Russia the website of the Equaldex platform, which assesses the rights and attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people in different countries. The corresponding resolution was published in the court file , “Verstka” noted.

According to the document, the prosecutor’s office went to court with a demand to ban the site, which decided that it “was popularizing LGBT relationships.” This is done, in particular, through a video on the topic “Supporting LGBT people, providing assistance,” the department believes.

“In these videos, people belonging to the LGBT community openly talk about their relationships on various topics, answer questions from subscribers, thereby promoting non-traditional relationships,” the court decision says.

It is noteworthy that on exactly the same grounds, a week later, the court banned access to the website of the Rusalgbtq organization, which provides support to Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ people living in the United States.

According to the Equaldex equality index, Russia ranks lowest among European countries

According to the Equaldex “equality index”, which consists of indicators of legal rights and public attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people, Russia ranks lowest among European countries with 23 points. This level is comparable to countries such as Mali (21), Kenya (21) and Niger (24).

Let us remind you that earlier “Verstka” reported that security forces came with raids in Mono and the former “Mutabor” . Dozens of people were detained, some were given summonses. The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained the raids as a fight against “LGBT propaganda.” And in Kirov, a case of extremism was opened against the owner of the LGBT bar Black Clever and drag artists.
