The official car of IAEA experts was attacked by a drone in the Zaporozhye region on December 10, said the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi.
According to him, this happened on the road leading to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, after the completion of the next rotation of the IAEA observer team. The car was attacked by a drone on territory controlled by Ukraine and was seriously damaged. IAEA staff were not injured.
Grossi did not specify which side of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict launched the drone. He condemned as “unacceptable” the attack on IAEA staff, publishing footage of the damaged car.
The incident with the IAEA car was commented on by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He stated that the drone was Russian.
On a road in the Zaporozhye region, a region where Russia continues to illegally hold a seized nuclear power plant, a Russian FPV drone attacked an IAEA convoy whose mission is to ensure nuclear security around the world. The blow struck one of the vehicles in the convoy. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.
This attack clearly demonstrated how Russia views everything related to international law, international institutions and security. The Russians could not have been unaware of their goal. They knew exactly what they were doing and acted consciously.
The Russian side did not comment on the incident near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
