Noize MC* and Monetochka* nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

The candidacies of musicians Noize MC (Ivan Alekseev) and Monetochka (Elizaveta Gyrdymova) were nominated by a group of teachers from the Norwegian University OsloMet. Journalist Vladimir Raevsky, who was present at this year’s award ceremony, was the first to report this. Later the information was confirmed by representatives of the musicians.

“The most important thing is that they represent with their voices a new generation that speaks very strongly for humanistic values,” OsloMet spokesman Arnfinn Vonen told Raevsky.

  • According to the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, applications for the Nobel Peace Prize can be submitted by university professors, emeritus professors and associate professors of history, social sciences, law, philosophy, theology and religion.

  • According to Alfred Nobel's will, the Nobel Prize is awarded "to anyone who will make a significant contribution to the unity of peoples, the elimination or reduction of the number of standing armies, or the development of peace initiatives." In 2021, its laureate was the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Dmitry Muratov*.

  • In January 2023, the Ministry of Justice added Elizaveta Gyrdymova to the register of foreign agents. Later, security forces opened a criminal case against her for evading the duties of a foreign agent and put the singer on the wanted list.

  • Noize MC was included in the list of foreign agents in November 2022. In March 2024, a third criminal case was opened against the artist under the article on foreign agents.

*Russian authorities consider them “foreign agents”
