The State Duma has banned the admission of migrant children to schools without knowledge of the Russian language

Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted in the second and third readings for a law that would prohibit children of migrants who do not speak Russian from studying in Russian schools. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin announced this.

Now, before enrolling migrant children in school, they will be required to undergo testing in the Russian language, state agencies clarify. Its results will be a prerequisite for admission. The testing itself will be free.

The law was passed unanimously. Initially, the voting system highlighted a single “against” vote from deputy Oleg Nilov, RTVI notes . However, he himself hastened to assure that he pressed “for”.

According to Vyacheslav Volodin, the new initiative is a continuation of the process of “improving” migration policy. Since the beginning of the year, the State Duma has already adopted 14 federal laws “aimed at combating illegal migration,” he added.
