The third ship in a month is in distress in the Kerch Strait

In the Kerch Strait, not far from the port of Kavkaz, a ship with 16 sailors from Syria and Egypt sent a distress signal. This was reported to TASS by the Russian Trade Union of Seafarers.

“We have received an appeal from the Gam Express crew. The situation is difficult: there is no food, no drinking water, and the last time the employer paid wages was in August. Now they have sent an SOS signal, hoping to enter the port. And, it seems, such an opportunity has arisen,” representatives of the Russian Trade Union of Seafarers told TASS.

As the agency clarifies, the ship is flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau. It is unknown what exactly he is transporting.

Last Sunday, December 15, two Volgoneft tankers crashed in the Kerch Strait. There were a total of 27 people on board the vessels. Each tanker carried more than four thousand tons of fuel oil. Oil products spilled into the sea, which led to an environmental disaster and pollution of the coast of the Krasnodar Territory. On December 17, Anapa authorities introduced a state of emergency. On December 18, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that at least 49 kilometers of the coastline were polluted.
