A resident of Syktyvkar Yuri Orlov was sentenced to three years in colony for comments about the Governor of Komi and the Speaker of the State Duma. The first Western District Military Court found him guilty in the case of calls for terrorism on the Internet, writes New Gazeta Europe.
Orlov was detained in September. According to investigators, in 2021 he wrote in VKontakte a comment under the video on the results of the election on the page of the then deputy of the State Council of Komi Oleg Mikhailov. Orlov wrote: "Uybu and Sevastyanov - to the furnace." The commentary was dedicated to Vladimir Uybe, who at that time was the head of the Komi, as well as Olga Savastyanova, State Duma deputy from the republic.
In addition, as the investigation claims, in May 2022, Orlov left a comment "Volodin must be hung immediately after Putin" under the post on the response of the State Duma speaker to the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Psychological linguistic examination found that Orlov’s words contained "signs of a call for an encroachment on the life of statesmen."
During interrogation, Orlov pleaded guilty. During the investigation, he was under the subscription about the wonness. The Military Court in St. Petersburg began to consider the case on December 17, Orlov participated in a meeting on the video from Syktyvkar. His lawyer defended his intended purpose. Despite the admission of guilt, Orlov refused to testify at the meeting, referring to the 51st article of the Constitution. He also said that he alone cares for an elderly mother and has problems with blood pressure. Nevertheless, the court sentenced him to the real term of imprisonment.
In October 2023, the court in Syktyvkar fined Orlov for 30 thousand rubles under the article on the "discredit" of the army due to comments on VKontakte. After the Komi Supreme Court, he canceled the fine and dismissed the case due to the lack of evidence of the circumstances of the offense.
