The reason for the criminal prosecution against Lazareva was her words about the attacks of drones on the Russian regions. A linguistic study of the Ministry of Internal Affairs showed that the TV presenter’s statements contain "information aimed at justifying terrorist activities."
After the start of the full -scale invasion of Russian troops to Ukraine, Tatyana Lazareva left Russia and condemned the war. In July 2022, she was declared a "foreign agent."
In 2024, along with other "foreign agents" Lazareva planned to participate in the elections to the Moscow City Duma. After that, the State Duma forbade "foreign agents" to run in the elections. In June, the TV presenter was included in the list of terrorists and extremists.
