Moscow heart surgeon sentenced to four years in prison for donating to FBK
The Perovsky Court of Moscow sentenced cardiac surgeon Ivan Tishchenko to four years in a general regime colony. He was found guilty of financing extremist activities (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code). This was reported in the telegram channel of the capital's courts.
The case against Tishchenko was initiated due to donations to the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by Alexei Navalny, which in 2021 the Russian authorities recognized as an extremist organization along with Navalny’s headquarters.
“We are shocked by the verdict, the defense will appeal the verdict. This is too severe a punishment for a person who saved thousands of human lives for his practice and certainly had no intentions of causing danger to the constitutional order of Russia,” Tishchenko’s lawyer Natalya Tikhonova told RBC.

Tishchenko himself admitted that he donated money to FBK, but said that this was before the organization was recognized as extremist and its activities were banned in Russia. “He subscribed before FBK was recognized as an extremist organization and forgot to unsubscribe,” Tikhonova added.
The trial of the cardiac surgeon began in mid-December, and before that Rosfinmonitoring included him in the list of persons and organizations in relation to which there is information about their involvement in extremist activities or terrorism.
