Russia launched a combined missile and drone strike on Ukraine. Zelensky claims Putin deliberately chose Christmas to attack

On the morning of December 25, the Russian Armed Forces launched more than 70 missiles and more than 100 drones into Ukraine, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.

According to him, the target of the attack was the Ukrainian energy system. The Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to shoot down more than 50 missiles and most of the Russian drones. Power outages began in several regions of Ukraine. Zelensky noted that Vladimir Putin “consciously chose Christmas” for a massive attack on Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces claim that the Russian army used Kalibr-type cruise missiles, which were launched from the Black Sea. Russia also launched several Tu-95MS missile-carrying bombers.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko reported that thermal power plants of the energy company DTEK came under attack, and equipment was seriously damaged. Ukrenergo writes that electricity consumption has been limited in Ukraine.

According to the head of the Kharkov regional military administration, Oleg Sinegubov, Russia attacked Kharkov using at least seven ballistic missiles. Six people were injured.

In the Dnepropetrovsk region, energy facilities came under attack from Russian troops, one person died. The energy infrastructure in the Vinnytsia region is damaged.
