On December 24, the Chelyabinsk administration refused to allow a supporter of the Union of Maoists of the Urals to approve a picket against surveillance and censorship on the Internet. On December 27, the Sovetsky District Court of Chelyabinsk recognized the refusal as legal. This is stated in the organization’s channel.
The event was planned to be held on December 29 in Aloe Pole Square. The authorities referred to the fact that the required site would be occupied that day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. In its response, the administration indicated that two other sites in Chelyabinsk, “specially designated... for the public expression of public opinion,” would also be occupied.
As the applicant of the event told OVD-Info, employees of Center “E” came to his work and took him to the prosecutor’s office. According to the young man, the police on the way “said that an active civic position gradually leads to extremism and terrorism.” The prosecutor's office gave the activist a warning about the inadmissibility of violating the law.
- This is not the first event that the Union of Maoists of the Urals refused to approve. In July and September, they were not allowed to hold actions on a similar topic - against the isolation of the RuNet and blocking. Previously, organizations also refused to hold actions against the ban on abortion and in support of Chelyabinsk resident Kirill Zamanov, who was accused of using violence against the police.
