On December 26, the Syktyvkar City Court sent Igor Tyron, a resident of the village of Nivshera, to a pre-trial detention center; he is charged with an article on justifying terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code) due to publications about the Ukrainian Azov battalion. This was reported by the press service of the court.
According to the official version, Tyron “between November 2022 and July 2023 […] posted publicly available comments aimed at publicly justifying terrorism, namely containing a positive assessment of ideology and terrorist activities (arson, explosions and other actions that frighten the population and creating danger) carried out by the Ukrainian paramilitary nationalist association “Azov”.
The man was placed in a pre-trial detention center for two months, until February 24, 2025.
As the publication “7×7” points out , before Igor’s imprisonment, Tyron taught history, social studies and geography at a school in the village of Nivshery. He is 43 years old .
- The Azov battalion or regiment is a unit of the Ukrainian army, formed in 2014 in Mariupol from volunteers. Typically associated with far-right subcultures in the past. In 2022, it became one of the main military formations defending Mariupol during the siege by Russian troops. On August 2, 2022, the Russian Supreme Court recognized Azov as a terrorist organization.
