Western publications claim that the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane that crashed in Kazakhstan, flying from Baku to Grozny, was shot down by a Russian missile while repelling an attack by Ukrainian drones. This is evidenced by the damage that was found on the skin of the liner, which was first noticed by war bloggers. Moscow and Astana do not yet want to publicly discuss versions of the plane crash; among the possible causes of the plane crash, a bird strike and a technical malfunction of the aircraft are named. At the same time, the Azerbaijani parliament has already demanded an apology from the Russian Federation for the emergency, because “obviously, the plane was shot down over Russian territory.” Republic summarized what is known about this so far.

An Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer plane en route from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau in Kazakhstan on the morning of December 25. Upon impact with the ground, it broke into pieces. There were 67 people on board, including five crew members. As a result of the plane crash, 38 people died (this citizens of three countries - Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan), the rest were hospitalized with various injuries. Initially, versions were put forward that the cause of the plane crash could have been a collision with a flock of birds or an explosion of an oxygen tank on board.

Videos and photographs soon appeared showing damage to the Azerbaijan Airlines plane. On the skin of the surviving wreckage of the airliner in the tail section, traces were noticed that were very similar to damage from the damaging elements of an anti-aircraft missile. It is known that Russian air defense forces were operating in the landing zone of the plane, repelling the attack of Ukrainian drones.
