On the penultimate working day of the year, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation again decided to declare Transparency International - Russia a “foreign agent”.
A little background . We were a Russian legal entity with this status for eight years - from 2015 to 2023. After declaring us an “undesirable organization” in March 2023, the Council of the organization decided to liquidate the Russian legal entity. In the fall, we resumed our work in exile as the only branch of the international anti-corruption movement Transparency International that operates outside the country.
We know that building a healthy society in Russia is impossible based on the persecution of human rights activists, political opponents and journalists. Corruption is a threat to the security of all residents of Russia and one of the reasons for the criminal war in Ukraine.
This year we celebrated our 25th anniversary and again received the attention of the Russian authorities. Corrupt officials are afraid of our work - and rightly so. We continue to work without changes from a safe jurisdiction and are confident that the expertise and professionalism of our team accumulated over the years will help return Russia to the number of countries that are respected and not feared by their neighbors.
On “foreign agency Fridays” it is customary to congratulate and sympathize with those who are included in this register. We said it in 2015, we said it again in 2023, and we will say it now: no discriminatory status will stop our work to uphold the principles of transparency, integrity and honesty.
