Nowadays, different countries and events are so connected with each other that what is said and done in one part of the world is immediately reflected in the other. Our world is global, interpenetrating and interdependent. And we have one planet for all of us. And information knows no boundaries at all, and its availability in the modern world cannot be limited, no matter how hard politicians in different countries try. But they nevertheless try, making people's lives harder and worse. In this regard, 2024 is not much different from the previous few years, and perhaps the next few. But still, it has its own characteristics, which are worth remembering finally.
Globally, 2024 was a record year for the number of elections and was also remembered for a large number of political crises. Elections of heads of state and parliaments took place in Russia, the USA, Germany, France, Moldova, Georgia, Hungary, Romania, the European Union, Great Britain, India, China, Mexico and many other countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Almost 40% of the world's population took part in voting in the highest level elections. Some of them took place as usual, without sensations, but some led to national and international crises.
The biggest sensation and harbinger of global geopolitical problems was the presidential election in the United States . It is no coincidence that their winner, Donald Trump, was recognized as Time magazine's Person of the Year. “For 97 years, Time editors have chosen the Person of the Year: the person who has most influenced the world and the headlines in the past 12 months, for better or worse. For many years this choice was difficult. “Not in 2024,” wrote the magazine’s editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs, introducing the winner of this nomination. “Today we see a resurgence of populism, a spread of mistrust in the institutions that have defined the last century, and an eradication of the belief that liberal values make life better for the majority of people.” Trump is both the agent and the beneficiary of this process.”

And given the scale and capabilities of the country that Trump is going to lead for the next four years, the whole world will face difficult trials.
