The White House will announce a new military aid package for Ukraine on January 9, Associated Press reports, citing two sources.

The official announcement, according to the agency, will take place during the visit of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to Germany.

This package will be the last for the outgoing Joe Biden administration. Sources noted that it will be “significant”, but is unlikely to include all four billion dollars that the US Congress has already approved for allocation to Ukraine.

• The Biden administration has accelerated the delivery of military aid to Ukraine in recent weeks, fearing that Donald Trump, upon returning to the White House, may refuse to transfer funds allocated by Congress to Kyiv that will not have been spent by that time. At the end of December, a $2.5 billion allocation was announced, the largest package since January 2023.
