“Be careful, Moscow”: a conscript with pneumonia died in the Moscow region the day before the oath of office; his family complained about the lack of medical care
A 19-year-old conscript from the Irkutsk region, Yuri Ubonov, died of pneumonia in a hospital in Podolsk near Moscow the day before the oath of office. This was reported by the telegram channel “Caution, Moscow” with reference to the family of the serviceman.
According to relatives, Ubonov was called up for military service in November. At the beginning of December, he ended up at the location of the 27th Motorized Rifle Brigade, which is based in the Moscow village of Mosrentgen.
On December 18, a conscript was admitted to the unit’s infirmary with complaints of cough and fever. Three days later, Ubonov was sent to outdoor shooting training, after which his condition worsened.
On December 23, the serviceman developed a cough with blood, chest pain and a temperature above 39 degrees. Ubonov’s family notes that they did not give him an X-ray and took tests, “bringing down his temperature with injections.”
“Yura lost consciousness several times; his colleagues say that he was coughing up blood. There was blood on the floor, but it wasn't even washed. Yura could barely walk, other conscripts helped him get dressed,” Ubonov’s relatives were quoted as saying by “Careful, Moscow.”
On December 27, the conscript was hospitalized in Podolsk near Moscow in a coma. At the hospital, Ubonov was connected to a ventilator. On the morning of December 28, he died. A medical examination concluded that the soldier died due to pneumonia and cardiopulmonary failure.
As Caution, Moscow notes, an oath was scheduled for December 29 in the military unit where Ubonov served. The family was informed about the death of the conscript only the next day.
“Most likely they waited so as not to cause panic among the parents of other conscripts. All the colleagues who were lying with Yura in the infirmary were transferred to other companies, the rest were intimidated,” the relatives suggest.r
On December 31, Ubonov’s family filed a complaint with the Moscow City Military Prosecutor’s Office.
This is not the first time that a conscript from the 27th Motorized Rifle Brigade dies of pneumonia without serving for more than a month.
In 2013, the military investigative department of the Investigative Committee for the Podolsk garrison opened a criminal case of negligence (Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code) after the death of four conscripts from military units 61899 and 30616-5 from double pneumonia.
The military prosecutor's office came to the conclusion that the death of the servicemen was caused by violations of statutory requirements by the commanders of their military units.
