The court banned the website of the online retailer Shein - LGBT symbols

This decision was made by the court in Tver

The Central District Court of Tula declared the website of the international online clothing store Shein prohibited in Russia because of the products sold on it with LGBT symbols. “Vestka” found the corresponding resolution in the court file.

According to the document, the Tula department of Rospotrebnadzor demanded that the Shein website be banned. Department employees specifically carried out “monitoring of Internet resources” that sell goods with LGBT symbols, as a result of which they discovered such things on the retailer’s website.

“When you enter “LGBT BRACELET” in the search line, we go to a page where an assortment of products containing LGBT paraphernalia is presented. The choice can be made based on distinctive characteristics, condition, price, and purchase format,” the resolution says.

Rospotrebnadzor employees added products to the “Cart” and made sure that the site allows you to place an order. At the same time, it can be done “including by a minor child,” the resolution notes.

As a result, the court agreed with the department’s arguments and decided to recognize the information published on the Shein website as prohibited. At the same time, the court noted that this decision may be the basis for including the online store’s website in the Roskomnadzor register. At the time of publication of the news, the Shein website was not added to the RKN register.

In 2024, police sent more than 130 cases of “LGBT propaganda” to the courts.

As “Verstka” calculated, last year more than 130 cases of “LGBT propaganda” were sent to the courts. The reasons for persecution were colored hair, “non-male” clothes, films with same-sex love, photos and likes on social networks.

Among those who received punishment are 71 citizens of Russia, other states and 20 legal entities.

In 2024, security forces used two articles of the Code of Administrative Offenses for punishment. Under Article 6.21.2, online cinemas and television channels are punished for not having the “prohibited for children” label on films and clips containing scenes of same-sex sexual relations. For this, the court may impose a fine of up to 4 million rubles or temporarily suspend the operation of the platform.

Under Article 6.21, in 2024 they were punished for anything: for public recognition of homosexual orientation, liking a video on Odnoklassniki, pictures and photos with a rainbow flag on social networks, saved music videos with same-sex kisses on VK, “non-male” clothes and colored hair. According to the law, for “gay propaganda” a fine of up to 400 thousand rubles is provided, and if the protocol is drawn up against an official - up to 800 thousand.

The total amount of fines that judges imposed for “gay propaganda” in 2024 is at least 25 million rubles.
