More than 900 world leaders in the fields of politics, business and science named “armed conflict at the state level” as the main risk of 2025. Experts consider climate change-related disasters to be the main threat in the next decade. This was stated in the “Global Risks Report 2025”, which was conducted by the World Economic Forum ahead of the annual meeting in Davos.
War was named the main threat in 2025 by 23 percent of the experts surveyed, another eight percent are afraid of geo-economic confrontation - this answer came in third place. Experts consider extreme weather events to be the second main threat, 14 percent said so. The answer about weather phenomena became the most popular only among experts under the age of 30; among representatives of all other age categories, the answer about war came first.

Among the main risks of the next two years, war was already in third place after the spread of disinformation and extreme weather events.
War is not included in the top ten long-term threats that experts consider relevant in the next 10 years. Five of the top ten long-term threats are related to natural changes, with four of them ranking at the top: extreme weather events, biodiversity loss and ecosystem destruction, critical changes in the Earth's ecosystems, and the decline of natural resources. Also in tenth place was the problem of planetary pollution.
In fifth and sixth place in the ranking of long-term risks were misinformation and adverse consequences from artificial intelligence technologies.

The World Economic Forum “froze” relations with Russia after the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2025, the organizers again did not invite Russian representatives to Davos. This year the forum will be held from January 20 to 25.
