In Moscow, a 66-year-old pensioner was sent to a pre-trial detention center on charges of “justifying terrorism.” TASS reported her arrest a year later

On January 15, state media wrote about the case of Moscow pensioner Galina Archagova, who is accused under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code (“justification of terrorism”) for posting a video on social networks in support of the “Freedom of Russia Legion”*. Archagova faces up to seven years in prison; the Tverskoy Court of Moscow decided to take her into custody, TASS reported.

At the same time, the pensioner asked to choose a measure of restraint for her that was not related to detention in a pre-trial detention center, since she needed to look after her elderly father. The court did not take these arguments into account.

As Mediazona** discovered, the case materials referred to by TASS are appeal decisions published in the database of Moscow courts. According to these documents, the court sent Archagov into custody on February 29, 2024. Since then, the preventive measure has been extended several times.

In November, the pensioner was added to the Rosfinmonitoring list of “extremists and terrorists.” At the same time, the telegram channel “Nastya and the letter” spoke about Archagova’s case. A pensioner complained that she needed help buying groceries.

“It seems that the children turned their backs on her, there was a connection with her son, he wrote that he was doing broadcasts, and at the same time, he didn’t even know that his mother was in Butyrka. It is very sad when a family abandons their loved ones in the most difficult situations. On the other hand, we do not know the details of the relationship before prison,” the publication said .

As OVD-Info managed to find out **, Galina Archagova is now in the medical unit at Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Moscow. The pensioner was transferred there after an examination at the Serbsky Center for Psychiatry and Narcology.
