The court has seized the real estate of rapper Alisher Morgenstern, who is being prosecuted under a criminal article for evading the duties of a “foreign agent” (Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). TASS reports this with reference to the press service of the Moscow prosecutor's office.
The seizure was imposed on a plot of land and a house in Istra, Moscow region, as well as one residential building and three non-residential premises. The artist will not be able to perform legal actions with these objects.
On January 17, the Investigative Committee completed the investigation of the criminal case against Morgenstern. This case became known in September 2024. According to investigators, the rapper published materials on his social networks for a long time without a label stating that he was a “foreign agent.”
Alisher Morgenstern was added to the register of “foreign agents” in May 2022. The Ministry of Justice considered that the musician was engaged in political activities, for which he received funds from a partner company of the video hosting YouTube.
- In December 2022, Vladimir Putin signed a law on imprisonment for “foreign agents” who were brought to justice twice in a year under an administrative article for violating the procedure for the activities of a “foreign agent” (Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code). More than 20 cases have already been opened under the criminal article of evading the duties of a “foreign agent” (Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code): for example, rapper Oksimiron and femme activist Daria Serenko were put on the wanted list.
