The actress claims that she is accustomed to attacks from haters on social networks. Once she was subjected to severe bullying because of edema - they wrote to her, among other things, that she had a “moon face.” At the same time, Schumer tried to ignore all the negative messages until she came across comments from real experts.

“Doctors wrote to me in the comments: “No, no... something is really wrong with you. Your face looks crazy,” she said.

After this, the actress decided to turn to doctors, who diagnosed her with Cushing's syndrome, a pathological condition characterized by exposure to excessive amounts of the hormone cortisol. The disease can also be triggered by taking medications called glucocorticoids, which affect the body in the same way as cortisol, notes The Independent.

Schumer initially rejected the diagnosis until she remembered that she had received steroid injections for her scars. The actress gave birth to her first child in 2019 via Caesarean section and had liposuction in 2022.

Cushing's syndrome leads to excess weight gain and swelling of the face, which is called "moon-faced." “Steroid injections caused me Cushing's syndrome. I would not have known about this if users had not attacked me with such force,” Schumer said.

The actress noted that she managed to recover, but she felt depressed for a long time. “I just couldn’t understand how I could start filming while all this was happening to me,” she said.

Schumer recalls that she received support at the time from friend and director Lorraine Caffery, who told her: “You know, I think you look damn great.”

Schumer has previously spoken about her problems with excess weight and claimed that she stopped taking the weight loss drug Ozempic. The actress also urged other celebrities to "be honest" with fans who believe they are just dieting.
