Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready to negotiate with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, but does not consider him a legitimate president who could sign a final peace agreement.
“You can negotiate with anyone, only because of his illegitimacy he [Zelensky] has no right to sign anything. If he wants to take part in the negotiations, I will highlight such negotiations, ”Pavel Zarubin told Putin to the VGTRK correspondent.
Putin also noted that before the negotiations, Zelensky’s decree prohibiting them with the Russian authorities should be canceled. In his opinion, the President of Ukraine himself cannot do this, as he is illegitimate - but this can do the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
Putin once again expressed the point of view that the “Western sponsors” want to stop the war, they can put pressure on Ukraine and “close legal issues”.
The President of the Russian Federation also said that in the spring of 2022 he decided to withdraw Russian troops from under Kyiv at the request of “some European leaders” who told him that Ukraine could not sign a peace treaty “with a gun at the temple”. However, Russia was “deceived”, and the leaders of Western countries “persuaded Ukrainians to continue the war” instead of concluding an agreement on the world.
