The United States is a country created by immigrants and constantly replenishing immigrants from all over the world. Meanwhile, the 45th and 47th President of the United States Donald Trump made a reduction in the scale of immigration, both illegal and legal-one of the main points of both of his electoral programs. Having took office in 2017, he signed a series of decrees that froze a refugee reception program and forbidden to visit the United States to citizens of several, mainly Muslim states; He significantly reduced quotas for refugees and recipients of Green Card, and also allowed the immigration service to separate immigrants from their minor children.
To combat the influx of immigrants from the south, the Trump administration in 2019 established a rule by which citizens of third countries before applying for asylum in the United States are obliged to apply for asylum to states whose territories they crossed before reaching the American border. In addition, in the first time Trump, the “Stay in Mexico” program began to operate: foreigners who want to receive refuge in the United States and have reached the southern border must submit relevant statements and wait for the decision of the US immigration authorities while in Mexico.
Joe Biden, replacing Trump at the presidential post in January 2021, canceled a number of key restrictions introduced by his predecessor. In particular, he stopped building a wall on the border with Mexico, again increased quotas for reception of refugees, actively used the practice of the so -called “password” - temporary granting the right to reside and work in the United States to citizens of states that became victims of conflicts and natural disasters, and also canceled Policy "Stay in Mexico." The Biden administration rely on cooperation with Mexico and the states of Central America (citizens of these countries are most often trying to get to the United States, fleeing poverty and crime), believing that if the situation in these countries improves, the number of immigrants from them will decrease.
In January 2023, a migration application called CBP One appeared, which Biden’s administration is considered their key success in creating legal ways of immigration across the border with Mexico and reducing illegal crossings. The CBP One application is the only legal way to get to the United States without a visa. With its help, migrants could apply for asylum in the United States. A citizen of any country, physically in the territory of Mexico, could load the CBP One application on his phone, fill out a biographical form and sign up at one of the border points for further entry into America.
One of the first steps of President Trump immediately after the inauguration on January 20, 2025 was the termination of the CBP ONE application. The application no longer works, and the existing records have been canceled, the US Customs-Goriferous Service , which appeared soon after Trump was led to the oath. On the same day, Trump signed a decree suspending the work of the refugee reception program in the USA (usrap) - for a start for 90 days. He announced a state of emergency on the border between the United States and Mexico and entered the troops there. And the deputy spokesman for the White House Anna Kelly said that the United States will stop the provision of asylum, introduce the process of immediate deportation, pain will not recognize automatic citizenship in birth for children of illegal migrants and restore the “Stay in Mexico” policy.
Oddly enough, but in the most vulnerable position were the asylum suppliers not from Latin America, of which the vast majority, but from Russia and several other post -Soviet countries. And this discriminatory policy began under Bayden.
The New York Post newspaper, citing a leaked official note, reported that the California border service agents were ordered to produce migrants from more than 100 countries to the United States, ”and“ only adult migrants from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be immediately sent for expulsion from the USA. " At the same time, the sources that the newspaper referred to, claimed that this does not "apply to migrants who use the CBP ONE mobile application to cross the border at the entrance point."
Meanwhile, the immigration lawyer Julia Nikolaeva from San Francisco claims that her CBP ONE client customers have taken advantage of the border and receiving asylum, from June 2024, they began to get into immigration prisons from where they were not released. In the same conditions, citizens of another six post -Soviet countries were also citizens, while all other asylum supplicants who come in the same way are quickly released from prisons and can prove their right to obtain the status of refugees at large. In early January 2025, Nikolaev, together with members of Free Russia Foundation **, made a trip to Washington, where she met with representatives of the White House and the US Congress in order to try to deal with this unspoken infringement of the rights of the national and civilian attribute, which is illegal in the United States. We talked with her.
