Norwegian police released a ship with a Russian crew, detained on suspicion of damage to the cable in the Baltic Sea

The Police of the Norwegian city Tromso said that the Silver Dania vessel, previously detained as part of an investigation of the case of damage to the fiber -optic cable in the Baltic Sea, could leave the port.

As the police representatives explained on the evening of January 31, no information was received that would testify to the lawsuits of the vessel in the incident.

“The investigation will be continued, but we do not see the reasons for the further stay of the vessel in Tromso,” the police said, adding that the crew and shipping company collaborated with the Norwegian authorities.

The Silver Dania ship, owned by the Norwegian company, prayed between St. Petersburg and Murmansk. The crew of the vessel consists of Russian citizens.

Silver Dania was detained on January 31 at the request of Latvia as part of the investigation of the case of damage to the underwater fiber -optic cable in the Baltic Sea, owned by the Latvian State Center of Radio and TV showing. The cable was damaged in the morning of January 26. The interruptions were recorded on the Ventspils -Gotland section between Latvia and Sweden.

• Earlier, as part of the investigation of the circumstances of the damage to the cable in the Baltic Sea, the Latvian authorities examined a ship called Michalis San, located next to the scene.
• Similar cases of cable damage occurred earlier - in November and December 2024. The assumptions were put forward that what happened could be a sabotage from Russia. However, the sources of The Washington Post reported, in the special services of Europe and the USA they are inclined to the opinion that damage to cables in the Baltic Sea was an accident, not a consequence of sabotage.
