RBC: The candidacy of Vladimir Medinsky is considered to the post of head of the Writers' Union of the Russian Federation

It is assumed that the new chapter will be elected at the alliance of the Union of Writers, which will be held on February 27. The congress will be extraordinary, it was announced on January 23.

Now the chairman of the board of the Union of Writers is held by Nikolai Ivanov. Commenting on information about the possible consideration of the candidacy of Medinsky, Ivanov noted that the assistant to the president is part of the organizing committee of the preparation of the congress.

“To choose the chairman, two -thirds of the vote of delegates are needed. Vladimir Medinsky is a member of the Russian Writers Union and has every right to be considered as a candidate for the post of chairman, ”he said.

The press service of the Union of Writers reported, writes to RBC that the preparation of the congress was discussed with Medinsky, which, as noted, "is ready to meet with a writer's asset in order to state his vision of the development of the literary process in the country."

A source in the book market, in turn, told RBC that the consideration of the candidacy of Medinsky to the post of head of the Writers' Union is associated with the recently increased attention to the industry by the authorities. In these conditions, he said, a “ideologically strong personality” is needed, which could also unite representatives of the book sphere and establish its dialogue with the authorities.
