The Court Court of Krakow sentenced two Russian citizens to five and a half years in prison on charges of participating in the “Wagner PMC” and spy activity in the interests of Russia. This was reported by Reuters .
They were also obliged to pay 30 thousand zlotys (about 700 thousand rubles) to the Polish Fund for assistance to victims and postpenitorial assistance, the Rzeczpospolita publication clarifies .
Russians - Alexei T. and Andrei G. - were detained and taken into custody in August 2023, when they arrived in Poland for several days.
According to the prosecutor's office, the convicts hung posters with QR codes in Krakow and Warsaw, which led to the site of the recruitment in the Wagner PMC. They were also accused of placing posters in France and Germany, "ridicuating the defense policy of Western countries."
The prosecution connected the actions of Russians with the "hybrid war", the purpose of which is "destabilizing the situation in Poland and other countries of the European Union."
“The court appreciated their activities as very harmful, although it took into account as a mitigating circumstance that they ultimately did not cause significant damage to the Polish state,” Rzeczpospolita notes.
The Russians did not admit their guilt, but they did not deny the fact of sticking leaflets.
In December 2024, the court in Polish Lublin sentenced the 21-year-old Russian hockey player Maxim Sergeyev to two years and 11 months of imprisonment in the espionage case.
According to investigators, the athlete was engaged in activities “related to the collection of information about critical infrastructure facilities” in several regions of Poland. He was one of 15 people who entered the Russian spy network in the country, the Polish authorities claimed.
