Vladimir Putin gathers a team of “heavyweights” with decades of diplomatic experience for negotiations in the war in Ukraine. This is written by Bloomberg with reference to sources.

Ushakov worked for Putin for more than ten years, and in 1998-2008 he was an ambassador to the United States that "gives him deep knowledge about interaction with Washington." Since 2012 - he is Putin's assistant on foreign policy.

Naryshkin is a longtime confidant of the Russian chapter: together they have been working for more than 40 years. Since 2016, he heads the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. Both Ushakov and Naryshkin participated in the first negotiations on the ceasefire with Ukraine shortly after Russia began a full -scale invasion in 2022.

Dmitriev , a native of Kiev, a financier who was educated in Stanford and Harvard, and after graduation he worked at McKinsey and Goldman Sachs. Since 2011, he has been led by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIP). The financier has strong ties with Putin's family and can play a key role as an unofficial communication channel with Trump's negotiators, the sources of the publication said. “The choice of these people emphasizes how decisively the Russian leader is configured to a favorable outcome of negotiations and, probably, how little his requirements have changed for Ukraine in three years since the beginning of the invasion,” writes Bloomberg.

The negotiation process may later join other participants in the 2022 team, including the assistant Putin Vladimir Medinsky, journalists note.

On February 12, the American leader held telephone conversations with Putin and Zelensky and said that negotiations on the war in Ukraine began "immediately." On the part of the United States, negotiations will be headed by Secretary of State Mark Rubio , CIA Director John Ratcliffe , National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and special messenger Steve Vitcoff, Trump said.

From the European Union, the Chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Layen will be present at the negotiations.
