Judging by the reports, all these conscripts died in August-September, but the deaths of many of them became known only in recent months. In particular, in early December, a video with a list of 13 dead conscripts began to spread on social networks, the death of 10 of whom had not previously been reported in the media. “Verstka” verified their identities and found obituaries dedicated to them.

Among the dead, most were natives of the Vologda region and Krasnodar region

We are talking about Kirill Mezentsev, Timur Mukhametov, Vladimir Segom, Evgeniy Sergienko, Anzor Tsipinov, Ilya Tikhobaev, Dmitry Bagrov, Maxim Kholmovka, Sergei Zinchenko and Danil Pichugin. All of them were between 18 and 23 years old.

In addition, in December it became known about the death of 19-year-old Andrei Fimichev. “They searched for him for four months, but he was listed as unidentified. He was buried on December 30, 2024,” one of the messages says .

The average age of the dead is 20 years. They were called up for military service from 18 different regions. Most of the dead were natives of the Vologda Region and Krasnodar Territory - three people each, as well as the Rostov Region, Altai Territory and Bashkortostan - two people each.

Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that conscripts will not participate in the war against Ukraine. However, by the beginning of August - even before the invasion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into the Kursk region - at least 159 conscripts were killed, the BBC Russian Service reported.

Earlier, “Verstka” wrote that due to the chaos and lack of coordination in the first days of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ invasion of the Kursk region, dozens of conscript soldiers were captured or went missing. In fact, the commanders abandoned them in the first days of the offensive without weapons and clear instructions. The fate of many of them remains unknown to this day. The same conscripts who managed to evacuate from the border of the Kursk region during the breakthrough of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were again sent to the border territories of the region. They were kept in a military unit near Kursk for more than a week, forced to sign contracts and threatened with prison.

Some of the conscripts who were captured were exchanged for military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. However, conscripts from the Kursk region released from captivity were returned to the military units where they had previously served in military service - to the regions bordering Ukraine.
