The Migration Service of Sweden decided to deport anti -war activist and researcher from Russia Daria Rudneva. This was reported by Sveriges Radio (Swedish radio) the activist herself. The Swedish security police considered that the presence of a Russian woman in the country is a "threat to security."
Rudneva came to Sweden in 2021 from Moscow under the exchange program in order to conduct research in mathematics and physics at Stockholm University. Judging by the profile of the activists in LinkedIn, which Mediazona drew attention to, since 2015, Rudneva studied at the Higher School of Economics, and then at the Skolkovo Institute of Technology and Science (Scoltech) under the program of theoretical and mathematical physics. Since August 2022, Skoltech has been under US sanctions.
After the beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, Rudnev became a co-founder of the Russians AGainst War created in Sweden in Sweden (“Russians against the war”). In December 2022, the organization was declared “undesirable” in Russia. In the same year, Rudnev was expelled from the organization, as she "tried to create conflicts and disagreements." The activist denies these accusations.
According to the Swedish security police, Rudneva’s research can be useful to the Russian authorities and used by military or “other organizations that have fallen under sanctions”. In addition to deportation, the migration service forbade Rudneva to return to Sweden and the countries of the Schengen zone for 20 years. She appealed this decision.
Rudneva claims that claims caused her actions when writing a scientific work. In particular, in the spring of 2022, she "allegedly made several persistent attempts to contact the faculty staff, which was not credited to, and asked questions that were perceived as strange." The security police regarding Rudneva’s behavior was contacted by university employees.
According to lawyer Rudneva Eva-Lena Hannerfors, the first decision on the deportation of Rudneva was issued on December 29, 2023. In April 2024, the case was returned to the migration service. In June 2024, the Swedish migration service again decided to deport Rudneva. This decision is appealed, so while the activist can be in the country.
The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyher writes that while working at Stockholm University, Rudnev went to Russia to meet with her supervisor with whom she worked on her dissertation.
Rudneva herself denies all the accusations. “My research is devoted to theoretical mathematics and cannot be used for military purposes,” the activist said.
The honorary professor of theoretical physics at the University of Stockholm, Tork Hans Hansson, in a conversation with reporters, noted that Rudneva was engaged in “fundamental research”, which have no military use.
