Results of Berlinale: from social dramas - to pink -cheeked novel of growing up and knitting

In the absence of obvious leaders, awarding was expected without ordinary interest. In addition, it turned out that the competitive program rather pale reflected the challenges of the current boiling in various conflicts of society.

The main intrigue was the question: what would Todd Haines and his jury prefer: films with a social background or a picture of dreams that were plenty of in the competition?

The jury chose two topics: dreams and history of motherhood.

Therefore, the “continent 25” Radu Zhuda received only a prize for the script. Smart and uncompromising cinema for the most sick topics is the topic of guilt. However, in the funnel of a simple story, as happens in the paintings of Zhuda - the concentration of existential themes painful for modern society and problems, such as the prosperous moral relativism, the unhealed wounds of the political “redistribution of the world”, again awakened nationalism. And when the Romanian of Hungarian origin who had committed a misconduct was heitated on the Romanian network, she is called the Hungarian whore. And its internal conflicts are associated with the historical past of the Hungarian Transylvania, once transmitted by Romania. And all these geopolitical topics are binded by a tourniquet in the heart of one injured by their inexplicable guilt of a woman. But this very feeling of guilt becomes a breakthrough for her through the usual walls of the philistine existence - to humanity, a sign of which is a sore conscience.

The jury and the picture of the “Dream” Michel Franco completely ignored. In a love novel, tearing through the living, the authors sewn the social metaphor - the relationship of America and Mexico. This is done, although posterly, but bright and convincing.

The jury chose completely different, more pink, like woven from soft wool, the “dreams” of the Norwegian director Dag Johan Haugherud, who finally triumphantly completed his trilogy (“Sex/Dreams/Love”) and received a “golden bear”. And when a year later, the grandmother of Johanna-a famous poetess in the past-reads the manuscript of the first novel-manner, erotic and tactile, and then gives the mother to read ... Adults will have questions.

The plot that erodes the border between the reality and the imagination of the teenager, between the melancholy and humor. It turned out a charming romance of growing up.

Rose Burn, who received a reward for the best role (for some time in Berlin, do not share the actors in the gender), is played by the mother of the sick child with whom he constantly communicates. At the same time, throughout the film we do not see this child. In the frame - the heroine of Burn - Supercussion. Her changeable face becomes a reflection of a nervous breakdown. Yes, and all its surrounding space, including a giant black gap in the ceiling, most likely a reflection of this perception distorted by pain, when the whole world is thickening into personal existential hell, and the drama turns into a horror. We will see the little daughter of the heroine Burn only in the finale - like catharsis, the light in this dark story. The excellent experimental work of the actress, most likely, is not a blowjob of an Oscar nomination.

The “blue path” of the director Gabriel Mascaro received the jury Grand Prix. Anti-aejest utopia about the escape of one grandmother to a new life from the "Paradise". Mascaro is one of the most famous Brazilian directors. The holder of many awards, including “Venetian horizons” (for the film “Neon Bull”).

His fourth film is a mix of anti -utopia and parables. The 77-year-old Teresa (Denise Weinberg) is first sent to retire (with a nice farm, where she is engaged in the processing of “nice” alligators), and then to the colony for the elderly.

But Teresa has their own plans for the future. And these plans are just the opposite: not to end, but to start life. She will start a beautiful battle-friend (charlatanka in years selling the Bible right from her boat), will find a house on the water, play "in a large way." And he will learn to respect himself, his desires, his feeling of freedom.

But the Mascaro thickens the colors: the breathtaking landscapes of the tropics and the “queen of the rivers” Amazons alternate with poor quarters and wretched villages, a surreal fiberglass cemetery, an abandoned entertainment park. Not only beauty, poetry, but also the temperament of heroines that are configured for life will melt the darkness of anti -utopia about a variety of totalitarianism - hope.

In the pandan, these shows of the jury is another. The aesthetic “Winter Tale” for adults “Ice Tower” with a magnificent dive of dreams, the snow queen Marion Kotiyar, who plays a movie tree in the role of an ice queen. A 60-year-old girl from the shelter (Clara Pachini) falls on the filming in the distant 70s. And he cannot take his eyes off the dazzling performer of the role of the Snow Queen in a sparkling shiny dress. But the tyrannical diva, which shut itself in the “ice tower” of alienation, requires a fan of unconditional submission. And at some point, both heroines find themselves on the edge of life and icy death.

Director Lucille Khadzihalilovich, David Lynch's cousin and wife Gaspar Noe (he played in the film director), combines fantasy, drama and arthouse techniques in one plot pattern.

The authors received a prize for an outstanding artistic contribution to the creation of the film.

There were no Russian paintings at the festival. There were many Ukrainian films - in almost all sections. Among them, the film “when lightning flashes” Eve Neuman from the “Forum” program over the sea , the most sensual statement seemed to me. Documentary tragicomedy, by intonation, close to the spirit of cinema Kira Muratova - about the inhabitants of the present Odessa. Several confessions of today's Odessa residents, like a reincarnation of the characters of Muratic paintings: with their quirks, experiences, fears, dreams. The puffy cook from Abkhazia, tired of the tireless, cutting, whipping, recalls his happy family, his son, whom she had not seen for a long time. The Jewish grandmother tells how she was lucky in childhood: she was not shot by the Nazis.

The faded wrinkled widow feeds the homeless cats, and her house with photographs of loved ones and cats on the couch reminded me of Kira Georgievna Muratova something.

A thoughtful drunkard is affected by banality about "life continues." But the center of the film is a boy, a street philosopher who dreams of arranging a feast for the whole world. And so that there was a huge pizza. And chocolate cake. And it was possible to make any desire that will surely fulfill, "when lightning flashes over the sea." And all the bad things are happening now are just bad dreams. A kaleidoscope of impressions and people, folding into a colorful tape of life under shelling. And a long night frame: a dark-dark house to the sounds of night anxiety and running small rays of light of the flashlights of saving people.
